Lowe's Birthday Party

Not many people know this, but you can take your kiddos to you local Lowe's or Home Depot for monthly workshops and some of them will actually do birthday parties. We had a birthday party at Lowe's this year and it was a hit!
The kids all received an apron to wear, hammer, goggles and a kit of their choice with all of the items and instructions inside to build it. And best of all, it was all free!
Invitation was created in Photoshop and printed out on cardstock to mail.
My boys aren't big fans of cake, so we came up with a few alternatives. The cake bites were a new thing I had tried to make (I'll post something on them later). Basically cake, covered in chocolate and on a stick. The toolbox was something my husband whipped out with some scrap pieces of wood and I painted it with some old red paint from the garage. It's filled with some brownie bites that I just picked up from the local grocery store (Albertsons bakery).

The kids showing off their projects.

For party favors, I bought these packages of Crayola paint pens for the kids to take home and paint their wooden project they had just made.

Update: Added a few more pics of the party....

  1. hi,
I am so excited I found this blog about your bday party. I have been working with home depot on doing a birthday party for my son. Unfortunately, they have never done this before and after telling me that I could have several kids, they decided to cut drastically the number of kids.

Also, the workshop originally was going to take place in the normal location where they have the workshops for the public and now they changed it to a room which is awful looking because there are piles of unused furniture, food, computers, and there is hardly room for anything... I was so excited, now I am so discouraged. I really want to have his bday party at one of these locations but none seem to have one before and I think they are scared!

Seems like your party at Lowes was great from looking at the photos. Can you tell me a few pointers? For instance, how many kids did you have? Was it in a separate room or in one of the halls of the store? Was it at the same time as the regular workshop that they have for families? what time of the day was it?
I would appreciate any advice you can give me.

    Thank you!

  2. Claudia - Thanks for your comments! Hope I can help!

When we had first looking into doing this party, we checked out home depot since we had been to a party there before. When I called around, not all of the locations did this type of thing, and the one that did was booked up. They said it's based on how many leftover kits they have available from the previous workshops.

So we checked out a new lowes that had opened near our house. My husband talked to the Manager each time about the party and they were very helpful, however they'd never done an actual party at their store before. (Each time I tried to confirm anything about the party with someone there, they'd have to direct me to the Manager. So you might make sure you are speaking directly with the manager of the store.)

We ended up with about 12-15 kiddos, and I had the party scheduled for 4-5:30. I beilieve they have the workshops twice a month, so we made sure it wasn't a weekend when they had one scheduled. They had us in a room that was setup with tables, whiteboards, and some computers. I'm assuming it was a training room for their employees. It was a very nice room, but it was also a brand new store so I'm sure that made a difference. They had the goggles, hammers and aprons laid out and a box full of projects for the kids to choose from. The people were very nice and helpful while we were there.

Hope it works out for you! Let us know how it turns out, we'd love to hear about it!
